Ready...Set...

Hello,

...and welcome back! Soon anyway...

I am very excited for the 2009-2010 school year to begin. There are many wonderful and challenging classes being prepared by all of the teachers upstairs, and an increasing opportunity for upper school and lower school to teach cross-age levels. We start on September 14th at 8:30 am.

I would like to remind folks of a few important details about my advising and the beginning of the year.

1) Please check this site, and our MS Wikispace (navigated through the website) for many important announcements, class assignments, due dates, service learning trips, and more! It is a vital way to stay informed.

2) NOTE: My classroom has moved downstairs into the "old" garden room! That is right! The garden space needed to be next to our new Eco-roof Garden so I have changed and rearranged to a new class space. Different, yes, and better in many ways as you will see...I think it looks lovely and will work well. It is also a sort of "bridge" if you will of upper and lower school energy and dynamics!

3) HOME VISITS are being scheduled soon. If you have not received a call, or do not yet know which advising class your student is in...PLEASE don't worry. It will all be handled soon, and meetings will be set up for the week before school starts. You will have received a packet that needs attention BEFORE I arrive. Thanks! This is an important time to ask questions, choose classes, and set up ways to help each other and the school have a great year...

4) Liaisons will be used this year for all advisors. That means a class parent (or two!) might call you to ask to drive on a trip, or help with supply donations, or plan our class parent meeting this year, or make a wish list for the MS etc. Once the year gets going, this is an essential and much appreciated volunteer position. Thanks TFT!!

5) I will teach the following classes in the fall (they will change for the second semester):

Middle School Writing Workshop
Advising (of course)
Songwriting/Musicianship (there is a $10 consumable materials fee for all enrolled students)
Making Meaning (HS = team-taught with Ken Gadbow)
Literature: J.R.R. Tolkien (a foundations course for college-bound students)
Drama (LS and MS combined)

I mention these classes so that you can look for syllabi and descriptions, assignments and due dates, supply lists and fees and more...updated HERE!

Thanks once again. If you need to contact me: kirk@trilliumcharterschool.org

More soon,

Kirk
